Campaign: Gharburx Update

We have now completed two sessions for the Gharburx campaign and I have enjoyed stepping into a Dungeons and Dragons 2024 with a more familiar campaign: the urban adventure. As I mentioned previously, the characters are part of a trade delegation from the Magocracy of Zand to the Ghar Empire. The characters are secretly part of the Great Library, which has agents imbedded in the delegation so they can clandestinely learn more about the Empire and maybe find some artifacts.

The game starts with the players being called into their immediate supervisors office and being assigned to help a fellow delegation member who had been picked up by the Gharburx Watch. They head to the watch station and find out their colleague is being held of suspicion of unaliving a monk who they met at a dinner party.

The member of the delegation is an NPC the players have met before though not the characters. That is a great advantage to playing your games in the same game world across multiple campaigns as crossovers bring some fan service to the players (like the post credit scenes in movies). Myself and my co-DM try to interweave as many characters it the world as possible as it makes the world feel alive.

The game has some elements that I really enjoy and I hope the story ends up shaping into something interesting. I have an idea how the mystery will go though I am not trying to hold too tightly. I have some general ideas though I prefer to have a collaborative approach with my players. They always bring more to my ideas than I could ever provide alone. I haven’t run a mystery before so I hope I can do the story justice.
